Honda MotoGP rider Joan Mir will remain sidelined for two more rounds of the 2026 season, but a "definitive diagnosis" regarding his affliction is yet to be reached.
Mir struggled badly for strength and energy during the Misano weekend and, after retiring from the grand prix, was also ruled out of the Red Bull Ring weekend due to what was described as inconclusive findings in his bloodwork.
On Tuesday, Honda said that Mir "has continued to undergo a series of tests" since, at the Dexeus University Hospital in Barcelona where MotoGP medical chief Dr Angel Charte is a director, and that those tests have "remained inconclusive".
Honda also revealed that the symptoms have been present "for several months".
Dr Charte was quoted by Honda as saying: "Joan Mir has been experiencing a variety of symptoms impacting his energy and performance for several months with a recent increase in severity, the cause is still unconfirmed at this time.
"Due to their persistence and severity, Mir has been undergoing a series of tests at the Dexeus University Hospital with the aim of reaching a definitive diagnosis. Due to the symptoms, the medical advice is to observe strict rest and undergo various treatments for the next 15 days.
"Consequently, I have advised him against participating in the Japanese and Indonesian Grands Prix. His condition will continue to be closely monitored by my team."
Honda says it will announce Mir's replacement "in due course".
Tester Takaaki Nakagami fulfilled the role admirably at the Red Bull Ring - but is already entered into his home round at Motegi as a wildcard, though he potentially could be simply shifted into the main factory line-up again.
