Martin in hospital for checks in bad start to MotoGP title defence

Defending MotoGP champion Jorge Martin has endured a nightmare start to his title defence in 2025, potentially suffering an injury at the very beginning of the Sepang test.

Martin's status for the three days at Sepang is now in doubt after just 13 laps completed, following a crash less than two hours into Wednesday's running.

The new Aprilia rider was taken to the medical centre after a big fall at Turn 2, then immediately redirected to hospital in nearby town Nilai with "left foot and right hand pain".

The fall was already his second of the day, the first a highside at Turn 1 less than an hour prior.

Aprilia had planned to use the first day as a day of acclimatisation for Martin and fellow new hire Marco Bezzecchi, starting off with the RS-GP '25 prototypes they had run in Barcelona in post-season testing last year before moving over to the newer prototypes.

But Martin's crash - even if he can return to action at Sepang - will throw a wrench into what was an "already set" test programme.

So will the fact satellite team Trackhouse also had a significant crash of its own, with Raul Fernandez - who didn't get to run a '25 prototype in Barcelona - doing a huge amount of damage to his RS-GP (pictured below) and himself requiring a hopefully precautionary trip to the medical centre.
