Review finds penalised Sainz wasn't at fault in Lawson clash

Carlos Sainz has had his Dutch Grand Prix penalty points rescinded after the stewards revisited his collision with Liam Lawson and found it to be a racing incident.

A Williams right of review bid, in which it leaned on footage from Lawson's rear-facing camera and Sainz's 360-degree camera that wasn't available to the stewards in race, was successful in forcing a second hearing regarding the incident - and in triggering a different outcome.

The 10-second penalty was already served in-race so could not be rescinded. However, the two penalty points have been stricken off Sainz's license, leaving him with just two for the 12-month period.

"We are grateful to the stewards for reviewing Carlos' Zandvoort penalty and are pleased they have now decided he was not at fault and that this was a racing incident," said Williams.

"While it is frustrating that our race was compromised by the original decision, mistakes are part of motor racing and we will continue to work constructively with the FIA to improve stewarding processes and review the racing rules for the future."
